Children - We love them!
To us children and animals are our favourite people. I enjoy their endless questions and constant intrigue with all things new. We would love to have your children come and visit. We promise that even the die-hard techno addicts will find themselves being distracted.
There are endless walks into our mountainside or bring your bicycle and take a ride to Greyton via the MTB route starting here
Oom Zean, the 'horse man' of the village, is right next door and he is happy to let the kids come and help with feeding or if you ask him he will take them for a pony ride.
Oom Herman has a really nice horse cart which could be arranged to take you to Greyton or Genadendal (price depends upon the length of time spent but is around R120 per hour). He also does birthday rides.
The Greyton Riding Club offers riding lessons, out rides into the fruit orchards or even show cart driving.
Jacques and Hector breed pigs and I have four breeding rabbits and chickens.
Children can play in the stream or you can take a short drive to the big river and pick a good place to swim, canoe or even catch a fish. (We have some tyre tubes available for swimming)
Failing all else there is the longest Zip-Line in South Africa just 30km away at the Caledon Casino & Spa Hotel plus other adventure activities.
In the cottage you will find a suitcase filled with board games, colouring books and the instructions to some 'old fashioned' games they might want to try.
In return we ask that they respect our property and do not disturb or aggravate the animals.
Pets - Our favourite people!
Pax, our Border Collie, is the boss around here.
She says:
"It is my job to make sure everything is safe. I hate cat fights but I happily tolerate friendly visiting canines. Try throwing ball with me and you will have gained my friendship for life. The thing is I do not like to give the ball back so please use 2 balls or I will give you a run around the garden to get mine.
As to your visiting Furry - I do expect them not to jump on the furniture or sleep on the beds in the cottage. My owner allows this from me (obviously...!) but because the cottage has many guests it may be possible that someone is allergic to dog hair. (I wonder why? Hair does not bother me...!)
If your Furry is used to sleeping on the furniture I ask that, with respect to hygiene, you please bring some throws for the furniture or your own bedlinen in this case.
I like my garden a bit 'natural' so I do not mind if your Furry helps to manure the flower beds but digging holes will not please my owner.
I was once bitten by an unsocialized hound, who simply had no manners, so please do not bring him to visit me? Before you bring your Furry will you please call my owner and discuss with her.
I hope all this sounds reasonable to you?
Woof-Woof
PAX
PS: Aisha and I do so like to beg food but we get into trouble if you feed us
so please do not tempt us.
PPS: Plus on 24 July 2014 Shaari was born. She came to join our pack at 6
weeks old and from real working sheepdog parents.
She is so cute too! Was I ever that small?!
She is so active and chews everything - I am forced to take disciplinary
action - but I have wisely delegated the entertainment and rough play
to Aisha. I think I am getting old (I noticed some grey hair the other
day) I no longer have the patience for puppy antics. "
