Accommodation & Rates
The cottage can comfortably sleep 4 guests and comprises an open plan lounge,
dining nook, kitchenette, double bedroom, loft bunks and bathroom.
(Please see the floor plan under About Us)
A large adobe bench with lots of cushions is used as a dining area with comfortable seating around the open hearth.
As space is at a premium, the kitchenette has a single sink, three-plate gas hob and small bar fridge with enough cupboard space for groceries. All basic crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are provided.
Please note: Visitors are welcome to use the main house deep freeze for reasonably sized produce, the microwave and washing machine.
Several plugs provide electricity for charging cell phones or using computers. We would like you to experience our village the traditional way, thus no TV is provided. Broadband to check emails is available if needed. Cell phone reception is not great but there is reception.
Towels and bedding are provided.
Firewood is provided - + 2 bags.
The property is fenced with a lockable gate and there is ample uncovered parking.
Mountain bicycles may be stored in the main house garage for safety.
Please be AWARE: Before you book, bear in mind that Bereaville (and Genadendal, for that matter) is a genuinely rural 'coloured' village. It is not Greyton - if it's dozy gentrification you want, then to Greyton you must go. But if you're open to a slightly different cultural experience, then Bereaville is your kind of place.
Bedroom
The bedroom has a double (adobe-based) bed with inner spring mattress, cozy duvet and cotton bedlinen. The bedside tables are local stone dug out of our garden.
The thick adobe walls provide good insulation so it is neither too hot or too cold. The open fireplace heats the whole cottage very quickly in winter. During the summer months a mosquito net and anti-mosquito spirals are provided.
Loft Bunks
The loft bunks are accessed via a slatted ladder. The beds are adult size (90cm x 1.9m) inner spring mattresses and there is enough head room to sleep adults although I imagine the younger members of the family will find these the most exciting.
Safety railings protect smaller children from rolling out of bed.

Bathroom
The bathroom has a really large shower, composting toilet and wash basin.
Drinking water in our village is a scarce commodity and is pumped from a borehole in the summer and comes from the mountain stream in the winter. It is because of this that we endeavour to use as little water as possible.
It is also our way of living a more sustainable lifestyle, whereby we do not flush 1000's of liters of drinking water down the toilet. We hope our guests will understand.
